The problem
If you connect through Telkom LTE and find you cannot log into cPanel, or you get logged out again within seconds of logging in, your internet connection is almost certainly the cause, not your password and not anything wrong on our side. It is a known quirk of how Telkom LTE handles its default connection, and it has a simple, permanent fix on your router.
Why it happens
cPanel protects your session by tying it to your IP address. If your IP address changes in the middle of a session, cPanel sees the new address as a potential session hijack and ends the session on the spot, which is exactly the right thing for it to do against a real attacker.
Telkom LTE's default connection, the internet APN, routes you in a way that makes your public IP address change frequently and unpredictably. So from cPanel's point of view, you appear to jump to a new address every few moments, and it logs you out each time, treating your own shifting connection as a threat. Nothing is actually wrong, your IP simply will not hold still long enough for a session to survive.
The fix is to switch your Telkom connection to the unrestricted APN, which routes your connection differently and keeps your IP address stable through a session, so cPanel stops seeing you as a moving target.
How to change your APN to unrestricted
This is done once, in your router's settings, and then it is permanent. The exact menu names vary by router brand, Huawei, ZTE, D-Link and others each word things slightly differently, but the steps are the same shape:
- Open your router's settings page. While connected to your Telkom Wi-Fi, type your router's address into a browser. It is usually 192.168.8.1 or 192.168.0.1, and it is printed on the sticker on the underside of the router.
- Log in with the router's admin username and password, also on the sticker if you have not changed them.
- Find the APN or Profile settings, usually under something like Settings, then Dial-up, then Profile Management, or Mobile Network, then APN.
- Create a new profile with these details:
- Profile name: anything you like, for example Unrestricted
- APN: unrestricted (all lowercase)
- Username: leave blank
- Password: leave blank
- IP type: IPv4, or IPv4 & IPv6
- Save it, set it as the default profile, and restart the router so it reconnects on the new APN.
Once the router comes back up, you should be able to log into cPanel and stay logged in.
If you're still getting logged out
If you have switched to the unrestricted APN and cPanel still drops you, the other common cause is the server's own protection having already blocked your connection after the repeated failed attempts, the IP block covered in our article on website access issues. Clear that by contacting us from another connection, or on our Business WhatsApp at +27 72 270 9321, and we will sort it out. And if you cannot find the APN settings on your particular router, tell us the exact brand and model in a support ticket and we will point you to the right menu for it.
Good to know
This is purely a Telkom LTE quirk, not a fault with your account, our servers, or cPanel itself, which is why the fix lives on your router rather than anywhere we control. The change is also worth making regardless of cPanel: the unrestricted APN generally gives Telkom LTE users a cleaner, more capable connection with fewer blocked ports, so it tends to improve more than just your cPanel access. Set it once and you should not have to think about it again.
